The National Youth Service (NYS) is the pride and backbone of our nation, focused on helping youth discover and develop their potential since 1964. The NYS wishes to inform the general public that a nationwide recruitment exercise for NYS volunteers (male and female) will be conducted throughout the Republic of Kenya. This role involves undergoing paramilitary training and offering voluntary service to the nation in various sectors.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Undergo rigorous Basic Paramilitary Training at the NYS Paramilitary Academy, Gilgil, or NYS Technical Training Institute (NYSTTI), Naivasha.
Be ready to offer voluntary service to the Nation in any part of the Republic of Kenya after training.
Participate in national building activities, youth empowerment projects, and community services as directed by the agency.
Maintain the highest standards of discipline and physical fitness throughout the training and service period.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
Citizenship: Must be a Kenyan citizen and a resident of the respective Sub-County of recruitment.
Age: Must be aged between 18 and 24 years.
Education: Must have attained a minimum mean grade of D (Plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Documentation: Produce the original National Identity Card and academic certificates (with one set of photocopies) at the recruitment center.
Clearance: Must possess a valid police clearance certificate (Certificate of Good Conduct).
Health: Must be willing to undergo a medical examination during and after the recruitment exercise.
Training: Must be prepared to undergo Basic Paramilitary Training.
Special Considerations
Orphans: Orphans who meet the requirements will be given special consideration upon presentation of valid documentary proof, such as parents’ death certificates or burial permits.
Persons with Disabilities: PWDs are encouraged to participate in the recruitment exercise at their respective sub-counties and centers, provided they can withstand the prescribed physical training.
Talents: Applicants with demonstrated sports skills and talents will have an added advantage.

How to Apply
The recruitment exercise will be conducted throughout the Republic from Monday, 16th March 2026 to Saturday, 21st March 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily. Prospective applicants should report to the recruitment centers in their respective Sub-Counties.
