The National Youth Service (NYS) is the pride and backbone of Kenya, focused on helping the youth discover and develop their potential. It serves as a premier agency through which the Government executes an elaborate and comprehensive youth empowerment master plan. The NYS is currently seeking Kenyan youth for its nationwide recruitment exercise for volunteers (male and female).
Role Overview
Successful candidates will undergo Basic Paramilitary Training and will be prepared to offer voluntary service to the Nation in any part of the Republic of Kenya. Training occurs at the NYS Paramilitary Academy in Gilgil or the NYS Technical Training Institute (NYSTTI) in Naivasha.
Requirements and Qualifications
Must be a Kenyan citizen and a resident of the respective Sub-County of recruitment.
Aged between 18 and 24 years.
Must have attained a minimum mean grade of D (Plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Must possess a valid police clearance certificate (Certificate of Good Conduct).
Must be willing to undergo a medical examination during and after the recruitment exercise.
Must be prepared to undergo Basic Paramilitary Training.
Must be ready to offer voluntary service to the Nation in any part of the Republic of Kenya.
Special Considerations and Important Information
Orphans: Orphans who meet the requirements will be given special consideration upon presentation of valid documentary proof, such as parents’ death certificates or burial permits.
Persons with Disabilities: Persons with disabilities are encouraged to participate in the recruitment exercise at their respective sub-counties and centers, provided they can withstand the prescribed physical training.
Talents: Applicants with demonstrated sports skills and talents will have an added advantage.
Integrity: NYS does not condone corruption. Canvassing or offering monetary inducements for admission is an offense resulting in automatic disqualification. Incidents should be reported to the Commandant General at 020-2400129.
How to Apply
The recruitment exercise will be conducted throughout the Republic from Monday, 16th March 2026, to Saturday, 21st March 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily.
Identify your local recruitment center based on your Sub-County of residence.
Attend the recruitment in person on the specified dates.
Produce the original National Identity Card and academic certificates.
Submit one set of photocopies of your documents at the recruitment center.
The nationwide recruitment exercise will take place from Monday, 16th March 2026 to Saturday, 21st March 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily at designated recruitment centers in each Sub-County. Applicants must appear in person with their original National ID, academic certificates, a set of photocopies, and a valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
