The Kenya National Youth Service (NYS) is conducting a nationwide recruitment exercise for NYS volunteers (male and female). The NYS is a premier agency through which the Kenyan Government executes a comprehensive youth empowerment master plan, focusing on helping youth discover and develop their potential through paramilitary training and national service.
Responsibilities and Duties
Successful candidates will be required to:
Undergo rigorous Basic Paramilitary Training at the NYS Paramilitary Academy in Gilgil or the NYS Technical Training Institute (NYSTTI) in Naivasha.
Offer voluntary service to the Nation in any part of the Republic of Kenya after completion of training.
Adhere to the discipline and regulations of the National Youth Service.
Participate in national development projects and youth empowerment programs as directed.
Qualifications and Requirements
Citizenship: Must be a Kenyan citizen and a resident of the respective Sub-County of recruitment.
Age: Between 18 and 24 years.
Education: Minimum mean grade of D (Plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Documentation: Must produce original National Identity Card and academic certificates, and submit one set of photocopies at the recruitment center.
Clearance: Must possess a valid police clearance certificate (Certificate of Good Conduct).
Health: Must be willing to undergo a medical examination during and after the recruitment exercise.
Training: Must be prepared to undergo Basic Paramilitary Training.
Commitment: Must be ready to offer voluntary service anywhere in Kenya.
Additional Information
Special Consideration: Orphans who meet requirements will be given special consideration upon presentation of valid proof such as parents' death certificates or burial permits.
Persons with Disabilities: PWDs are encouraged to participate provided they can withstand the prescribed physical training.
Talent: Applicants with demonstrated sports skills and talents will have an added advantage.
Integrity: NYS does not condone corruption. Canvassing or offering inducements is an offence leading to disqualification.
How to Apply
The recruitment exercise for Kisumu will be conducted as part of the nationwide drive from Monday, 16th March 2026 to Saturday, 21st March 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily.
Prospective applicants should report to the recruitment centers in their respective Sub-Counties on the specified dates.
Ensure you have your original ID, academic certificates, and Certificate of Good Conduct along with one set of photocopies.
Successful candidates will receive calling letters detailing when to report to the NYS Academy or Institute.
How to Apply
The recruitment exercise will be conducted from Monday, 16th March 2026 to Saturday, 21st March 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily at designated recruitment centers within the Sub-County.
Applicants must report to their respective Sub-County recruitment centers with original documents (ID, KCSE Certificate, Certificate of Good Conduct) and one set of photocopies.
