The Kenya National Youth Service (NYS) is conducting a nationwide recruitment exercise for volunteer servicemen and servicewomen. Since 1964, the NYS has been a premier agency for youth empowerment in Kenya, focused on helping young people discover and develop their potential. This role involves undergoing rigorous training and providing voluntary service to the nation as part of a comprehensive youth empowerment master plan.
Responsibilities and Duties
Participate in a mandatory Basic Paramilitary Training program at NYS academies in Gilgil or Naivasha.
Be prepared to offer voluntary service to the nation in any part of the Republic of Kenya.
Participate in national development projects and community empowerment programs.
Maintain high standards of discipline and physical readiness throughout the training and service period.
Attend medical examinations as required during and after the recruitment process.
Requirements and Qualifications
Must be a Kenyan citizen and a resident of the respective Sub-County of recruitment.
Must be aged between 18 and 24 years.
Minimum mean grade of D (Plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Must produce the original National Identity Card and academic certificates, providing one set of photocopies at the recruitment center.
Possess a valid police clearance certificate (Certificate of Good Conduct).
Willingness to undergo medical examinations and Basic Paramilitary Training.
Orphans who meet the requirements will be given special consideration (valid proof such as parents' death certificates is required).
Persons with disabilities are encouraged to participate provided they can withstand the physical training.
Demonstrated sports skills and talents are an added advantage.

Prospective candidates should present themselves at the recruitment centers in their respective Sub-Counties. The recruitment exercise will take place from Monday, 16th March 2026 to Saturday, 21st March 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily. Applicants must bring their original ID, academic certificates, and a valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
