The Kenya National Youth Service (NYS) is the pride and backbone of our nation, dedicated to helping youth discover and develop their potential. Following a restructuring in 2014, NYS serves as a premier agency through which the Government executes an elaborate and comprehensive youth empowerment master plan. NYS is conducting a nationwide recruitment exercise for volunteer servicemen and servicewomen (male and female) across the Republic of Kenya.
Successful candidates will undergo Basic Paramilitary Training and must be prepared to offer voluntary service to the Nation in any part of the Republic of Kenya. Training takes place at the NYS Paramilitary Academy in Gilgil or the NYS Technical Training Institute (NYSTTI) in Naivasha.
Responsibilities and Duties
Undergo rigorous Basic Paramilitary Training as prescribed by the Service.
Commit to offering voluntary service to the Nation in various capacities and locations across Kenya.
Participate in national development projects and youth empowerment initiatives.
Adhere to the high standards of discipline and conduct expected within a paramilitary organization.
Report to designated training centers (Gilgil or Naivasha) upon successful recruitment.
Qualifications and Requirements
Citizenship: Must be a Kenyan citizen.
Residency: Must be a resident of the respective Sub-County of recruitment (Kilifi).
Age: Must be aged between 18 and 24 years.
Education: Must have attained a minimum mean grade of D (Plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Documentation: Produce the original National Identity Card and academic certificates, and submit one set of photocopies at the recruitment center.
Conduct: Possess a valid police clearance certificate (Certificate of Good Conduct).
Medical: Be willing to undergo a medical examination during and after the recruitment exercise.
Physical: Be prepared to undergo intensive physical and paramilitary training.
Special Considerations
Orphans: Special consideration will be given to orphans who meet the requirements, provided they present valid documentary proof (e.g., parents’ death certificates or burial permits).
Persons with Disabilities (PWDs): PWDs are encouraged to participate, provided they can withstand the prescribed physical training.
Talents: Applicants with demonstrated sports skills and talents will have an added advantage.

The recruitment exercise will be conducted from Monday, 16th March 2026 to Saturday, 21st March 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily. Prospective applicants must present themselves at the recruitment centers in their respective Sub-Counties within Kilifi.
