The National Youth Service (NYS) is a premier agency in Kenya focused on helping youth discover and develop their potential. It serves as an agency through which the Government executes an elaborate youth empowerment master plan. This role involves joining as a volunteer serviceman or servicewoman to undergo paramilitary training and offer service to the nation.
Responsibilities
Undergo rigorous Basic Paramilitary Training at the NYS Paramilitary Academy, Gilgil, or NYS Technical Training Institute (NYSTTI), Naivasha.
Provide voluntary service to the Nation in various capacities across the Republic of Kenya.
Participate in national development projects and youth empowerment programs.
Maintain high standards of discipline and physical fitness in a paramilitary environment.
Requirements
Citizenship: Must be a Kenyan citizen and a resident of the respective Sub-County of recruitment.
Age: Must be aged between 18 and 24 years.
Education: Must have attained a minimum mean grade of D (Plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Documents: Must produce the original National Identity Card and academic certificates (plus one set of photocopies) at the recruitment center.
Conduct: Must possess a valid police clearance certificate (Certificate of Good Conduct).
Health: Must be willing to undergo a medical examination during and after the recruitment exercise.
Commitment: Must be prepared to undergo Basic Paramilitary Training and be ready to offer voluntary service in any part of the Republic of Kenya.
Additional Information
Orphans: Orphans who meet the requirements will be given special consideration upon presentation of valid documentary proof (e.g., parents’ death certificates or burial permits).
Inclusivity: Persons with disabilities are encouraged to participate in the recruitment exercise at their respective sub-counties, provided they can withstand the prescribed physical training.
Talents: Applicants with demonstrated sports skills and talents will have an added advantage.
How to Apply
The recruitment exercise will be conducted nationwide from Monday, 16th March 2026 to Saturday, 21st March 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily.
What to Bring: You must present yourself at the recruitment center with your original National Identity Card, KCSE academic certificates, and one set of photocopies of the same.
Conduct: Ensure you have a valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
Reporting: Successful candidates will report to the NYS Paramilitary Academy, Gilgil, or NYS Technical Training Institute (NYSTTI) Naivasha, on the dates specified in their calling letters.
