The Kenya National Youth Service (NYS) is conducting a nationwide recruitment exercise for male and female volunteers throughout the Republic. The NYS has been a cornerstone of youth empowerment in Kenya since 1964, focusing on helping young citizens discover and develop their potential through an elaborate paramilitary and national service framework.
Responsibilities and Duties
Undergo intensive Basic Paramilitary Training at designated training centers.
Offer voluntary service to the Nation in various parts of the Republic of Kenya.
Participate in community development, security support, and national empowerment projects.
Maintain high standards of physical fitness, discipline, and professional conduct.
Report to the NYS Paramilitary Academy, Gilgil, or NYS Technical Training Institute (NYSTTI) Naivasha for training as specified in recruitment letters.
Qualifications and Requirements
Citizenship: Must be a Kenyan citizen and a resident of the respective Sub-County of recruitment.
Age: Between 18 and 24 years.
Education: Minimum mean grade of D (Plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Documentation: Must produce the original National Identity Card and academic certificates (with one set of photocopies).
Clearance: Must possess a valid police clearance certificate (Certificate of Good Conduct).
Health: Willingness to undergo medical examinations during and after the recruitment process.
Training: Preparedness to undergo rigorous Basic Paramilitary Training.
Special Considerations: Orphans who meet requirements receive special consideration with valid proof (death certificates/burial permits). Persons with disabilities are encouraged to participate if they can withstand physical training. Sports skills and other talents are an added advantage.

The recruitment exercise will be conducted at the sub-county level from Monday, 16th March 2026 to Saturday, 21st March 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily. Interested candidates must present themselves at the designated recruitment centers with their original documents.
