The National Youth Service (NYS) is a premier agency through which the Kenyan Government executes a comprehensive youth empowerment master plan. This nationwide recruitment exercise is for volunteer servicemen and servicewomen (male and female) to join the service for paramilitary training and national duty. The NYS focuses on helping youth discover and develop their potential through structured training and service.
Responsibilities and Duties
Undergo Basic Paramilitary Training at the NYS Paramilitary Academy in Gilgil or the NYS Technical Training Institute (NYSTTI) in Naivasha.
Offer voluntary service to the Nation in any part of the Republic of Kenya as required by the government.
Participate in various national development activities and community service projects.
Adhere to the strict codes of conduct, discipline, and standards of the National Youth Service.
Engage in youth empowerment programs designed to develop professional and personal skills.
Requirements and Qualifications
Citizenship: Must be a Kenyan citizen and a resident of the respective Sub-County of recruitment.
Age: Must be aged between 18 and 24 years.
Education: Must have attained a minimum mean grade of D (Plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Documentation: Must produce original National Identity Card and academic certificates (with one set of photocopies) at the recruitment center.
Legal: Must possess a valid police clearance certificate (Certificate of Good Conduct).
Medical: Must be willing to undergo a medical examination during and after the recruitment exercise.
Service Commitment: Must be prepared to undergo Basic Paramilitary Training and offer voluntary service across Kenya.
Special Considerations
Orphans: Orphans who meet the requirements will be given special consideration upon presentation of valid proof such as parents' death certificates or burial permits.
Persons with Disabilities: PWDs are encouraged to participate provided they can withstand the prescribed physical training.
Talents: Applicants with demonstrated sports skills and talents will have an added advantage.
