Role Overview
As the University Guidance Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping students' futures by guiding them through the university application process and preparing them for success.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting Students' University Applications: Guide students through every stage of the application process, from shortlisting universities to securing scholarships, with a strong understanding of international pathways and British Curriculum requirements.
Coordinating with Key Stakeholders: Work closely with teachers, parents, school leadership, and relevant academic teams to monitor student progress and ensure strong recommendations.
Enhancing Extracurricular Opportunities: Develop programs to enrich students’ academic experience and organize career-related events, workshops, and guidance sessions.
Managing Relationships with Universities: Build and maintain partnerships with universities, particularly in Africa and internationally, and manage relevant university application platforms and digital tools.
Alumni Engagement: Foster a strong alumni network to support current and former students in their academic and professional journeys.
The Ideal Candidate Profile
Education Experience: Experience in University Guidance, Teaching, or the Education sector in general. This is essential for understanding the academic needs of students and providing effective support throughout the university application process.
Curriculum Familiarity: Familiarity with the British Curriculum is important to support students effectively within the context and guide them through relevant university pathways.
Communication and Presentation: Strong communication and presentation skills are critical for writing recommendation letters, guiding students and parents, building relationships with teachers and universities, and being well accepted by the school community.
Data & Digital Literacy: Proficiency in data management and digital tools is necessary to manage student application data, track progress, handle reports, and use digital platforms efficiently.
Global Perspectives: Familiarity with African and International Universities helps ensure students have a broad range of opportunities and can find the right academic fit.
Event Management: Creative and event management skills are important for organizing career fairs, workshops, and other student enrichment activities that broaden students’ perspectives.
Mindset: A problem-solving mindset is crucial for building a new university guidance function, addressing challenges, managing a busy schedule, and supporting families who may be less familiar with the university application process.
