This position is responsible for teaching undergraduate students as well as undertaking research that influences theory and practice in a given field. This is the entry grade for Master’s degree holders into this academic cadre. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the university's academic mission through teaching, research, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Instruction: Undertake teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.
Research and Publication: Lead and manage teams in conducting research individually or collaboratively. Disseminate research findings through publishing peer-reviewed outputs and presenting at national and international conferences.
Mentorship: Supervise, advise, and mentor postgraduate students in their research and academic journeys.
Funding and Development: Write proposals for research and development funding to support academic projects.
Academic Policy: Significantly contribute to the development of academic policies and coordinate research activities in the subject areas.
Partnerships: Develop collaborative links and research partnerships with other researchers and institutions both within and outside the university.
Curriculum Development: Participate in the development and review of academic programmes and curricula.
Career Guidance: Guide and mentor early-stage researchers in their training, skills acquisition, and career development within their specialization.
Administration: Manage examination preparation, administration, and departmental activities. Undertake community outreach activities and provide leadership in the department or school where appropriate.
Qualifications and Requirements
PhD Progress: Evidence of registration for a PhD.
Academic Background: An earned Master’s Degree and a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited and recognized University.
Research Output: At least eight (8) equivalent publication points from credible refereed journal articles.
Professional Standing: Registered with a relevant professional body (where applicable) and in good standing.
Outreach: Evidence of Community Outreach or Engagement.
Competencies: Possess relevant knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary for university-level instruction and research.
