Job Description
Kenya Railways is seeking a highly qualified professional for the position of Train Operations Manager. This senior role is responsible for the provision of operational strategies, plans, and policies aimed at achieving safe, efficient, and effective railway transportation services. The incumbent will lead the division in ensuring compliance with Quality Management Systems and ISO Standards while optimizing train operation schedules and asset utilization.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide operational strategies, plans, and policies for safe and effective railway transportation services.
Guide compliance with Quality Management System and risk management in the division, ensuring passenger service processes meet ISO Standards.
Lead the preparation of train operations schedules to achieve optimal asset utilization and rail track capacity.
Evaluate operations performance of the train’s operations division.
Formulate and implement the Safety Management Plans (SMP).
Participate in rail incident and accident investigations to identify root causes and implement remedial actions.
Lead the preparation of operational cost structures to inform the development of tariffs and fares.
Coordinate the implementation of the division’s performance contracting targets and work plans.
Identify and develop plans & procedures to mitigate risks in train operations.
Develop annual budgets and procurement & disposal plans for the division.
Appraise direct reports and participate in the identification of staff training needs and motivation.
Lead the development and implementation of corruption prevention and mitigation strategies.
Foster a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good governance in line with the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
Requirements of the Position
Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Commerce, Economics, Business, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Must be a member of a relevant professional body and in good standing.
A management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.
A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant working experience, five (5) of which must be in Senior Management.
