About the Role
Our mission at Light Up Hope is to provide education and health interventions to impoverished students and communities in Kenya. We believe that simply being born into poverty should not dictate the end of an individual's story.
Light Up Hope is seeking a Temporary Reliever Driver to support organizational operations and logistics on an as-needed basis. The driver plays a critical role in safely transporting staff, VIPs, and project materials while ensuring vehicle maintenance and adherence to organizational safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation and Logistics
Safely drive NGO staff, VIPs, and project participants to approved destinations, including offices, field sites, and official meetings.
Transport project goods, parcels, documents, and cargo, ensuring timely and secure delivery.
Vehicle Maintenance and Compliance
Ensure vehicles are clean, well-maintained, and in good working condition.
Keep vehicle documentation, such as registration, insurance, and maintenance records, up to date.
Report any mechanical issues promptly and coordinate necessary repairs.
Adhere to local traffic laws and organizational safety policies.
Operational Support
Assist project teams with logistical tasks as needed, including fieldwork support.
Be available during off-hours or emergencies to meet operational demands.
Teamwork and Professional Conduct
Build effective relationships with colleagues, external partners, and local authorities.
Demonstrate empathy, respect, and adaptability in diverse work environments.
Contribute to improving transport and logistical systems based on experience and best practices.
Qualifications and Skills
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
3–5 years or more experience in professional driving preferred.
Proficiency in driving manual transmission vehicles.
Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and basic mechanical troubleshooting.
Strong understanding of local traffic laws and safety regulations.
Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing circumstances, and handle emergencies.
Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work as part of a team.
Basic literacy and numeracy; computer literacy may be an advantage.
Academic qualification (BA/BSc/HND or Diploma equivalent).
Duration and Compensation
The assignment shall be undertaken on an as-needed basis.
The Consultant shall be paid a daily rate of KSh 10,000, inclusive of all logistical and related operational costs incurred in the execution of the assignment.
