Tom Mboya University is seeking a Technologist (Surveying/GIS/Geomatics) to manage laboratory and field equipment and support academic and research activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance of precision instruments, supervising student practicals, and conducting geospatial data analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Management: Prepare, maintain, and manage laboratory and field equipment, including total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, GIS software, and other surveying instruments.
Academic Support: Conduct and supervise practical exercises, fieldwork, and laboratory sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Data Analysis: Collect, process, and analyze spatial and geospatial data to support teaching, research, and applied projects.
Technical Maintenance: Ensure proper functioning, calibration, and maintenance of surveying and GIS equipment, including software and hardware troubleshooting.
Supervision: Supervise and mentor junior staff, students, and attachees engaged in laboratory or field work.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate laboratory and field records, including inventories, consumables, and quality assurance documentation.
Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety standards and proper handling of equipment and data during laboratory and field activities.
Research Support: Support research projects, mapping, and geospatial analysis by providing technical expertise and guidance.
General Duties: Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements for Appointment
Minimum of six (6) years’ cumulative relevant work experience at the level of Technician/Technologist Grade 7 or equivalent.
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Surveying, GIS, Geomatics, etc.) from a recognized and accredited institution.
A Diploma in a relevant field from a recognized and accredited institution.
Proficiency in relevant computer applications.
