Aga Khan University Hospital is seeking a Molecular Technologist to join its team in Nairobi. The role involves receiving, analyzing, and processing specimens for general and specialized molecular assays. The incumbent will operate open and closed molecular platforms, conduct equipment maintenance, develop SOPs, and participate in quality control and patient safety initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Receive specimens for general and specialized Molecular assays.
Analyze tests with maximum efficiency and ensure timely reporting of critical values.
Produce valid results ensuring maximum utilization of reagents and time.
Maintain appropriate internal controls on all processes in Molecular biology testing.
Manage routine and planned preventive maintenance of equipment in the section.
Run internal controls and QC with all Molecular assays.
Develop, write, and implement SOPs in the Molecular section.
Observe and comply with Health and Safety regulations in the laboratory.
Maintain high standards of hygiene and general cleanliness in work areas.
Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and continuous medical education.
Prepare and package samples at appropriate temperatures to be outsourced and hand over to collection agents.
Teach practical skills to students and other Laboratory technicians.
Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements & Qualifications
Higher Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized institute or equivalent.
Registered with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
Minimum 3 years of working experience.
Competent in Molecular Skills including nucleic acid isolation from a variety of samples, QC procedures and analysis, PCR techniques, and sequencing techniques including next-generation sequencing.
Competent in operating the usual open and closed molecular equipment and platforms.
Competent in operating manual and automated workflows.
Bioinformatic skills are an added advantage.
Well-versed in the required discipline.
Strong team player with high attention to detail and good communication skills (written and oral).
