AMREF Flying Doctors is seeking a Technical Stores Officer to manage technical stores and inventory operations at Wilson Airport in Nairobi. The successful candidate will receive, inspect, store, and issue aircraft parts and materials in accordance with aviation regulatory requirements and company procedures, while ensuring tool calibration and inventory accuracy to support aircraft maintenance operations.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Stores and Inventory
- Receive, inspect, store, and issue aircraft parts and materials in accordance with company procedures and aviation standards.
- Verify all incoming and outgoing materials are supported by required airworthiness and regulatory documentation, maintain full traceability, and ensure compliance with KCAA regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure all stock transactions are promptly recorded in the inventory management system.
- Ensure all inventory is correctly identified, labelled, segregated, and stored to preserve airworthiness, traceability, and serviceability.
- Package, store, handle, and dispatch aircraft parts, components, engines, and cores in accordance with approved procedures and manufacturer requirements.
- Monitor stock levels and maintain adequate inventory of critical aircraft parts and materials to support maintenance operations, minimize aircraft downtime, and prevent shortages.
- Advise the Head of Base Maintenance on stock status, reorder levels, and procurement requirements.
- Conduct periodic stock counts and inventory reconciliations, investigating and reporting any variances or discrepancies.
- Manage shelf-life-controlled and time-expired items using the First Expiry, First Out (FEFO) principle and ensure expired stock is quarantined and disposed of properly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, secure, and compliant storage environment.
- Support maintenance operations through the timely issuance of parts and materials to maintenance personnel, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and proper documentation.
- Communicate material shortages, stock discrepancies, delayed deliveries, or other issues affecting maintenance schedules.
- Maintain proper hazardous material storage and control in accordance with safety and environmental requirements.
- Participate in internal and external audits and implement corrective actions or process improvements.
Tools & Equipment
- Implement the system for the calibration of tools and equipment used for inspection and testing in accordance with MPM provisions.
- Ensure all tools and test equipment used on aircraft are regularly inspected and calibrated as needed.
- Ensure hangar, shop equipment, and tools are in serviceable working condition.
- Arrange for repair or replacement of defective tools and equipment.
- Carry out daily tool checks on general Toolboxes when tools are used during maintenance actions and ensure Toolbox inventory is current.
- Ensure all tools used are returned to the Technical Tool Store at the end of each shift.
- Issue materials and tools to maintenance personnel based on approved work orders.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in aviation stores operations, inventory and warehouse management, material planning, and stock control.
- Demonstrated knowledge of aircraft parts, tools, Ground Support Equipment (GSE), consumables, and applicable KCAA regulatory documentation requirements.
- Experience working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and/or Inventory Management systems.
- Hands-on aircraft maintenance experience is an added advantage.
