At TakaTaka Solutions, we collect waste like every other waste collector, but instead of taking it to a landfill, we take it to our own sites, where we sort the waste and recycle 95% either ourselves or through our local partners. This represents one of the highest recycling rates in the world.
Purpose of the Role
The Technical Operator will oversee, supervise, and actively operate recycling machinery to ensure optimal production efficiency, equipment reliability, and product quality. The role is responsible for maintaining high Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), ensuring safe operations, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the recycling plant.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operations
Operate and oversee recycling machinery including washing lines, pelletizing machines, balers, shredders, conveyors, and sorting equipment.
Monitor and control key production parameters such as temperature, pressure, and speed.
Conduct routine equipment inspections and promptly address malfunctions or breakdowns.
Ensure smooth operation of industrial production processes involving multi-step mechanical systems.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Supervise and, where possible, conduct preventive maintenance activities.
Diagnose mechanical and operational faults and coordinate timely repairs.
Maintain accurate maintenance and performance records.
Work closely with engineering teams on equipment installation and commissioning.
Quality Control
Enforce quality control measures to ensure high-quality recycled output.
Inspect incoming raw materials and finished products for compliance with standards.
Collaborate with quality control teams to resolve production issues and improve processes.
Production Planning & Process Optimization
Support development and execution of production schedules in collaboration with the Plant Supervisor and Plant Manager.
Coordinate interdepartmental material flow to ensure smooth production processes.
Analyze production data to improve efficiency, manpower utilization, and machine performance.
Implement process control systems and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Use data-driven insights to enhance decision-making and plant performance.
Safety & Compliance
Promote and enforce strict adherence to safety regulations and procedures.
Maintain a clean and organized working environment.
Conduct safety briefings and training sessions for operators.
Investigate and report incidents promptly, implementing corrective actions.
Leadership & Supervision
Lead, train, and supervise Assistant Operators.
Motivate and guide the team to achieve production targets.
Communicate production metrics, equipment performance, and operational updates to management.
Foster teamwork and collaboration across departments.
Academic & Professional Qualifications
Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Experience & Competencies
Proven experience as a machine operator in a recycling or similar industrial environment.
Experience operating industrial production machines involving at least three controlled process parameters (e.g., temperature, pressure, speed).
Strong understanding of industrial machinery processes and mechanical techniques.
Knowledge of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), machine efficiency, and manpower utilization.
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of safety regulations and industrial compliance standards.
Leadership capability and strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment and stand/walk for extended periods.
Excellent communication skills.
