Job Description
Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Study Nurse (5 Posts) based in Kisumu.
Key Responsibilities
Recruit, screen, consent, enroll, and retain study participants in accordance with the study protocol, SOPs, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), ethical, and regulatory requirements.
Conduct study procedures, administer study questionnaires, and collect demographic, behavioral, and clinical data using approved study tools.
Provide participant counseling on HIV prevention, STI prevention, contraception, adherence to study products, risk reduction, and other protocol-required health education.
Coordinate participant follow-up visits, appointment reminders, tracing, and retention activities to minimize loss to follow-up and ensure protocol compliance.
Complete and maintain accurate study documentation, including source documents, case report forms (CRFs), participant logs, and timely data entry into REDCap and other approved electronic databases.
Review study data and records for completeness, accuracy, and protocol compliance; resolve data queries, and promptly document and report adverse events, protocol deviations, social harms, and other participant safety concerns.
Collaborate with laboratory, pharmacy, clinical, qualitative research, and data management teams, and prepare study documentation for monitoring visits, audits, inspections, and quality assurance activities.
Maintain participant confidentiality, comply with institutional policies, GCP, Human Subjects Protection, and all applicable regulatory requirements, participate in study trainings and team meetings.
Perform any other study-related duties assigned by the Supervisor.
Vacancy Requirements
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
Minimum of 2–3 years' experience in research, clinical trials, or related healthcare settings.
Valid nursing registration and licensure.
Current Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subjects Protection (HSP) certification.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational and time-management skills with high attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Good problem-solving skills, initiative, and resourcefulness.
