The Specialist, Sustainable Finance, Capital Markets will be a key driver in developing strategies and programs for FSD Africa's Capital Markets pillar. This role focuses on leading research into green and sustainable finance, identifying transformative project portfolios, and creating tools to guide stakeholders in implementing best practices in African financial systems. The position involves a blend of thought leadership, project design, financial management, and high-level stakeholder engagement to optimize FSD Africa’s development impact across sub-Saharan Africa.\n\n### Key Responsibilities\n#### Thought Leadership & Strategy Development\n- Participate in strategy development for the Capital Markets pillar, ensuring insights in green and sustainable finance are integrated into program designs.\n- Lead FSD Africa’s research into green and sustainable finance to understand and leverage beneficial change in African financial systems.\n- Engage regularly with experts and decision-makers in African countries to understand strategic priorities for capital market development.\n- Identify project portfolios that align with FCDO strategy and FSD Africa development goals to achieve transformative market impact.\n- Develop methodologies and IP to guide best practices in Sovereign and Private Sector Financing.\n\n#### Project Design & Implementation\n- Conceptualize and design investment proposals, including results measurement and risk management frameworks.\n- Support a pipeline of demonstration transactions, such as sustainable thematic bonds and blended finance, involving both public and private sectors.\n- Deliver technical training and workshops on sustainable finance instruments for financial sector participants.\n- Develop detailed implementation plans, manage budgets, and procure necessary consultants or partners.\n- Lead monitoring and learning for projects to optimize impact and implement corrective actions as needed.\n- Provide technical advice in alternative assets, including private equity and debt, to project stakeholders.\n\n#### Financial Management & Fundraising\n- Identify fundraising and co-funding opportunities and support proposal development.\n- Manage resource allocation to achieve optimum impact and supervise consultants for value-for-money.\n- Monitor budget spend and ensure compliance with donor policies and accountability requirements.\n\n#### Influencing & Communicating for Impact\n- Drive market transformation through effective influencing, advocacy, and communication strategies.\n- Publish industry thought-leadership materials and contribute to FSD Africa’s Communications Plan.\n- Build FSD Africa’s web presence through briefing notes, case studies, and conference presentations.\n- Network and convene stakeholders to build awareness and influence thinking around capital markets.\n\n#### Partner Engagement & Capacity Building\n- Identify and empower key implementing partners to operate effectively in their respective markets.\n- Build and maintain relationships with senior leaders in partner organizations.\n- Collaborate with partners on joint strategizing and projects to leverage change in capital markets.\n\n### Requirements and Qualifications\n- Education: Master’s degree with at least 9 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with at least 11 years of experience.\n- Experience: A minimum of 9 years' experience in technical specialism (green and sustainable finance) at a middle management level in a financial markets environment.\n- Thematic Expertise: Proven track record in providing transaction support for sustainable thematic bonds and closing blended finance transactions.\n- Project Management: Ability to manage complex project portfolios and stakeholder relationships at middle to senior management levels.\n- Skills: Strong research and analysis skills; successful delivery of results in technical assistance.\n- Communication: Excellent written and spoken English is essential.\n- Preferred: Postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject and an understanding of development finance and strategic development impact.\n\n### How to Apply\nInterested and qualified candidates should apply online via the FSD Africa career portal on SeamlessHiring.
