Job Description
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is looking for a Spatial Data Application Developer to support the GEF Biodiversity and Land Degradation global portfolio. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with the Enterprise Solutions Section (ESS) Unit and Corporate Services Division to develop a fully operable spatial tool. This tool is designed to integrate data holdings and hosting requirements with UNEP’s data management systems, providing critical analytics and visualization for environmental indicators.
Key Responsibilities
User Information Collection: Develop a component allowing users to upload and manage data within the tool.
Data Analysis: Build a component that enables users to utilize internal and global datasets to report against specific biodiversity and land degradation indicators.
Data Visualization: Create an interface for the appropriate and useful visualization of complex spatial data and indicators.
Synthesis and Reporting: Develop a module to provide tailored reports specific to user requirements.
Technical Integration: Ensure the GEF Biodiversity & Land Degradation Unit's data holdings are properly integrated with UNEP’s data management systems.
Reporting: Work under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer in charge of Knowledge Management.
Requirements
Education
An advanced degree (Master's) in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Data Science/Analytics, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Software Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
A first-level university degree (Bachelor's) plus two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience
At least 5 years of professional experience related to database development and archiving, software systems analysis, design, and development.
Experience in geospatial information management with a strong background in data monitoring, reporting, and visualization for environmental or development programs.
Technical Skills
High proficiency in at least four of the following technologies: React, MS SQL, MySQL, ASP.NET, C#, Java, Geographic Information System (GIS), PHP, JavaScript.
