Sous Chef

This role supports the Executive Chef in the effective management of daily kitchen operations at Aga Khan Academy, which is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKDN is a group of development agencies with mandates that include the environment, health, education, architecture, culture, microfinance, rural development, disaster reduction, the promotion of private-sector enterprise and the revitalisation of historic cities. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining consistently high standards of food quality, presentation, and nutrition for students and staff, while ensuring full compliance with health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Executive Chef in the effective management of daily kitchen operations.
• Prepare and oversee the preparation and service of meals for students and staff.
• Maintain consistently high standards of food quality, presentation, and nutrition.
• Assist with menu planning, taking into account dietary, medical, cultural, and religious requirements.
• Supervise, train, and support kitchen staff to ensure operational efficiency.
• Ensure full compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health regulations.
• Contribute to stock control, inventory management, and cost control.
• Uphold a professional, respectful, and child-safe working environment at all times.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma in Culinary Arts from a recognised institution.
• Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in a similar role.
• Experience in international schools, boarding schools, hotels, or large-scale institutional catering is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of food safety standards (HACCP or equivalent).
• Demonstrated leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
