Job Description
Role Purpose
The SME Strategy and Financial Advisor will support the growth and sustainability of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by providing strategic guidance, financial advisory services, and capacity building. The role focuses on strengthening SME business performance, improving financial management, and enhancing access to appropriate financing solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. SME Strategic Support
Conduct business diagnostics to assess SME performance and growth potential.
Support development and implementation of business and growth strategies.
Advise SMEs on market positioning, operational efficiency, and scalability.
Identify opportunities for value chain integration and market linkages.
2. Financial Advisory
Support SMEs in setting up and improving financial management systems.
Develop financial models, cash flow projections, and budgets.
Guide SMEs on cost management, pricing, and profitability.
Review financial records and provide actionable insights.
3. Access to Finance
Prepare SMEs for financing through investment readiness support.
Assist in development of bankable business plans and pitch materials.
Facilitate linkages with financial institutions (banks, MFIs, SACCOs, investors).
Support structuring of appropriate financing solutions.
4. Capacity Building & Mentorship
Deliver training on financial literacy, business planning, and record keeping.
Provide ongoing mentorship and coaching to SME owners.
Develop training materials and tools for SME support.
5. Monitoring & Reporting
Track SME performance and progress against set targets.
Maintain accurate records of advisory support provided.
Prepare periodic reports on activities, outcomes, and impact.
Contribute to program learning and improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.
Professional qualifications (CPA, CFA, ACCA) are an added advantage.
Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in SME advisory or business consulting, financial analysis, or investment advisory.
Experience working with MSMEs, financial institutions, or development programs.
Strong understanding of the Kenyan SME ecosystem.
