SME Strategy and Financial Advisor

Key Responsibilities

1. SME Strategic Support

• Conduct business diagnostics to assess SME performance and growth potential.
• Support development and implementation of business and growth strategies.
• Advise SMEs on market positioning, operational efficiency, and scalability.
• Identify opportunities for value chain integration and market linkages.

2. Financial Advisory

• Support SMEs in setting up and improving financial management systems.
• Develop financial models, cash flow projections, and budgets.
• Guide SMEs on cost management, pricing, and profitability.
• Review financial records and provide actionable insights.

3. Access to Finance

• Prepare SMEs for financing through investment readiness support.
• Assist in development of bankable business plans and pitch materials.
• Facilitate linkages with financial institutions (banks, MFIs, SACCOs, investors).
• Support structuring of appropriate financing solutions.

4. Capacity Building & Mentorship

• Deliver training on financial literacy, business planning, and record keeping.
• Provide ongoing mentorship and coaching to SME owners.
• Develop training materials and tools for SME support.

5. Monitoring & Reporting

• Track SME performance and progress against set targets.
• Maintain accurate records of advisory support provided.
• Prepare periodic reports on activities, outcomes, and impact.
• Contribute to program learning and improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.
• Professional qualifications (CPA, CFA, ACCA) are an added advantage.
• Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in SME advisory or business consulting, financial analysis, or investment advisory.
• Experience working with MSMEs, financial institutions, or development programs.
• Strong understanding of the Kenyan SME ecosystem.
