About the Role
Shamiri Institute is a social science research organization founded at Harvard and launched in Kenya in 2018. Our mission is to provide youth in Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond with evidence-based tools to improve their life outcomes. We combine rigorous social science research with deep contextual knowledge of the education and mental healthcare space in Sub-Saharan Africa.
As a Shamiri Fellow in Kiambu, you will be responsible for delivering intervention activities by facilitating group sessions for adolescents. The role involves managing group dynamics, ensuring participant safety and confidentiality, and utilizing digital tools for data collection and reporting. You will work under supervision to refer students in need of psychosocial support and ensure the integrity of the Shamiri program.
Responsibilities
Delivering intervention activities by facilitating group sessions.
Referring students in need of psychosocial support to Shamiri Supervisors.
Observing punctuality on all matters that concern the Shamiri program.
Attending supervision meetings as communicated.
Recording group sessions of attendance.
Reporting to the supervisors any information necessary promptly.
Acting, with supervision, to help ensure participant confidentiality, health, and safety.
Data collection through the Shamiri Digital Hub during group sessions to help ensure accurate participant information.
Requirements
Must have attained at least a Grade C- in KCSE, or an equivalent qualification in GCSE, AS-level, etc.
Must be between 18 and 22 years of age at the time of application.
Familiarity with Google Workspace tools (e.g., Google Docs, Forms, Calendar) or other basic digital tools.
Own or have access to a phone that can access the internet.
Experience facilitating or supporting group activities, especially with adolescents or in school settings, is a plus.
Willingness to learn from mistakes and use feedback for personal and professional growth.
A genuine interest in helping others, particularly adolescents, with a strong commitment to confidentiality, fairness, and emotional safety.
Alignment with the mission and values of Shamiri.
Strong time management, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail in facilitation and reporting tasks.
Basic knowledge or interest in mental health, wellness, or life skills education.
