Reporting to the Regional Manager Turkana with guidance from the Lead Engineer, the Senior Water Technician is responsible for performing technical tasks within the Turkana Regional office following established standards and procedures. This position requires a self-driven individual who is a devoted Christian with a clear calling and passion for Water Mission's goal of ending the global water crisis. The role is based in Turkana, Kenya, and involves frequent travel to remote locations within the country or surrounding regions.
Responsibilities
General Responsibilities:
Maintain a strong Christian witness and model servant leadership to colleagues, partners, the communities served, and the public.
Technical Responsibilities:
Carry out installation of solar PV systems, including electrical wiring, mounting of inverters and panels, testing, and installation of main switches.
Conduct troubleshooting and repair work on solar energy systems, resolving issues related to wiring, connections, and equipment malfunctions.
Perform regular inspections and preventative maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.
Act as a site team-leader during installations, ensuring efficient, safe, and quality work adhering to Water Mission’s standards and regulatory requirements.
Ensure compliance with electrical codes and regulations.
Develop maintenance schedules and ensure adherence to safety procedures.
Train system operators on day-to-day operations, including daily monitoring of residual chlorine levels in treated water.
Monitor quality testing and assist with borehole, spring, and well yield tests.
Perform community assessments, including water quality/quantity testing and survey measurements.
Provide timely project reporting, including monthly assessment and follow-up reports with photographs.
Provide disaster response support and work in other countries as needed.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Diploma or Higher Diploma in Civil, Environmental, Electrical, or Electro-mechanical Engineering. A Bachelor’s degree is an added advantage.
Experience: At least 5 years of experience in a specialized field, preferably related to water systems.
Skills: Specialized technical skills in plumbing, welding, electrical work, and building.
Certification: Relevant technical certifications and a valid Driver’s license are required.
Software: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and drafting programs like AutoCAD, PowerCADD, SolidWorks, or ProE.
Communication: Fluency in written and spoken English and Swahili with excellent cross-cultural communication abilities.
Personal Alignment: Alignment with Water Mission’s Statement of Faith and core values of Love, Excellence, and Integrity.
Legal: Legal authorization to work in Kenya without sponsorship.
