This position is responsible for organizing and executing hands-on practicals and field works for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as offering technical support in research matters for students and staff at Laikipia University. The role reports to the Section Head and ensures the smooth operation of laboratory and field activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Equipment Management: Provide safe use of equipment by operating them according to laid down procedures and manuals to ensure smooth running of operations.
Academic Support: Ensure preparation, conduction, and supervision of practical field work, courses, or classes.
Record Keeping: Maintain records of equipment in line with established best practices to guarantee timely delivery of services.
Research Assistance: Participate and offer technical support in research matters for both students and staff.
Teaching Materials: Collect and prepare teaching materials by making timely requests to ensure practicals are completed within scheduled timeframes.
Maintenance: Ensure scientific servicing and calibration of laboratory equipment and machines to forestall machine failure.
Safety Compliance: Ensure that Health and Safety standards are maintained in the laboratories, workshops, and fields.
Evaluation: Assess, determine, and evaluate requirements of assigned practical works.
Waste Management: Ensure safety disposal of scraps for workplace hygiene and safety.
General Duties: Perform any other duties as may be assigned, prescribed, and/or delegated by the immediate supervisor.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in the relevant specified field from a recognized institution.
Professional Certifications: Relevant Professional Qualifications and registered membership of a relevant professional body (where applicable).
Experience: Minimum of Three (3) years' experience as a Senior Technologist III or its equivalent.
