The Senior Technician - Fibre (North Rift Valley) is responsible for successfully undertaking all activities relating to routine maintenance, corrective maintenance, root cause analysis, and network quality initiatives for the fibre optic network. Reporting primarily to the Team Leader – Field Operations and secondarily to the Regional Technical Manager within the Technology department, this individual/team contributor role ensures high network availability and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs: Evaluates, tests, and repairs old or malfunctioning fibre network infrastructure along with scheduled preventive maintenance routines covering optical cables, closure kits, ducts, and manholes.
Inspection & Monitoring: Generates sensor indicators and executes inspections to ensure the fibre optic systems do not contain faults that could destabilize performance.
System Quality: Performs regular inspections of the assigned system and repairs any defects recognized.
Records Management: Prepares and maintains system records and system diagrams.
Technical Tasks: Performs fibre optic maintenance including point of break/link analysis, splicing, core alignment, and splice quality validation using necessary tools and techniques.
Principal Outputs
Achievement of performance KPIs.
Ensure fiber segment availability of 98%.
Achievement of 80% of Trouble Tickets (TTs) within SLA.
Ensure quality fiber splices with a slope of <0.25dB/km within segment.
Qualifications & Experience
Academic & Professional:
BSC in Electronic/Electrical/Telecommunication Engineering or a related field.
Training in optical fibre technology.
Higher Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Certification in Fiber technology.
Experience:
Two years of experience in fibre maintenance.
Proven track record in analyzing trends, undertaking root cause analysis, identifying key issues, and putting in place actions to address and improve network & service availability and quality.
Must be certified and able to work at height, in confined spaces, and in all weathers.
