Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and operationally excellent Senior Storekeeper / Logistics Coordinator to manage our materials and finished goods inventory while coordinating product delivery across East Africa. This role combines hands-on warehouse management with strategic logistics coordination, requiring expertise in both local and international supply chains. The successful candidate will work independently on routine operations, coach junior team members, and serve as a subject matter expert for complex logistics challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management
Goods Receiving: Work independently to receive incoming materials and finished goods, verifying quantities, quality, and documentation against purchase orders and delivery notes. Solve routine problems related to discrepancies, damages, or delays.
Storage & Location Management: Coach junior storekeepers on proper storage techniques and bin location systems. Identify improvements to warehouse layout and material handling processes.
Inventory Control: Monitor stock levels, conduct cycle counting, stock reconciliation, and inventory analysis. Recommend actions for slow-moving or obsolete inventory.
Materials Issuance: Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for complex material requisitions and urgent production needs. Ensure accurate and timely issuance while maintaining proper documentation.
Sourcing and Procurement
Local Sourcing: Identify and engage local suppliers for standard materials and emergency procurement. Maintain relationships and monitor market conditions.
Import Procurement: Mentor junior staff on import documentation, Incoterms, and customs clearance. Coordinate with freight forwarders and international suppliers.
Supplier Evaluation: Develop performance scorecards and contribute to vendor development initiatives. Participate in supplier audits.
PO Management: Manage complex purchase order scenarios, expediting urgent needs and ensuring proactive tracking with suppliers.
Logistics Coordination
Transport Coordination: Plan and coordinate transport for customer deliveries, optimizing routes and load consolidation. Manage vehicle and driver scheduling.
Export Logistics: Manage export documentation including commercial invoices, certificates of origin, and EAC customs requirements. Coordinate with clearing agents and shipping lines.
Delivery Performance: Monitor on-time delivery metrics and implement corrective actions for delays. Coordinate with sales and customer service teams.
Customer Communication: Serve as the point of contact for complex delivery inquiries or complaints, ensuring professional communication regarding delivery status.
Requirements and Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
At least 3 years of experience in warehouse management, inventory control, or logistics coordination, preferably within manufacturing or packaging industries.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, solve operational problems, and meet deadlines.
Experience coaching or mentoring junior warehouse or logistics staff.
Solid understanding of import/export procedures and EAC customs regulations.
Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel locally and regionally as needed.
