Job Description
The Senior Statistician within the Statistics Division at the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) is responsible for overseeing the institutional data lifecycle and supporting evidence-based policy research. The role involves managing large-scale data collection, supervising statistical staff, and maintaining robust databases to ensure the availability of high-quality data for researchers and policymakers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Supervising the collection, collation, compilation, analysis, and dissemination of statistics.
Conducting field operations for data collection while ensuring strict adherence to established methodologies and timelines.
Supervising and mentoring junior statisticians and data management staff.
Overseeing the design, development, and maintenance of institutional statistical databases.
Collaborating with policy analysts and researchers to generate evidence-based research outputs.
Preparing and reviewing comprehensive statistical reports, academic publications, and technical briefs.
Responding to specialized data requests from internal researchers and external data users.
Requirements for Appointment
A cumulative service period of six (6) years, with at least three (3) years of experience at the grade of Statistician I or a comparable position.
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Data Science, Economics and Statistics, Biostatistics, Geo-Information System (GIS), Computer Science, or a related field from a recognized university.
Master’s degree in Mathematics, Data Science, Economics and Statistics, Biostatistics, Geo-Information System (GIS), Computer Science, or a related field from a recognized university.
Proficiency in data analysis using statistical packages such as SPSS, Stata, MS Excel, Fox Pro, CS Pro, or related qualifications.
