The Senior Registrar in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Mater Misericordiae Hospital is a specialized medical role responsible for providing high-level clinical care to patients, leading junior medical teams, and ensuring the department operates efficiently according to hospital standards. This role involves a mix of clinical practice, surgical intervention, mentorship, and administrative policy support.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Care: Attend to antenatal mothers, review medical reports, and ensure safe deliveries. Perform ward rounds alongside Senior Consultants and provide expert guidance on complex cases.
Surgical Procedures: Conduct both elective and emergency surgeries as required.
Consultation: Serve as a point of reference for Senior House Officers (SHOs) seeking guidance on patient management.
Departmental Oversight: Oversee the daily operations of the department and ensure that hospital policies and administrative regulations are understood and followed by all staff.
Policy & Strategy: Assist management in drafting and implementing departmental policies and procedures. Advise on the procurement of necessary equipment and supplies.
Mentorship & Training: Coach, mentor, and supervise Senior House Officers and elective students. Conduct Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities to maintain high standards of competency within the team.
Staffing Coordination: Liaise with HR & Talent Development to ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained.
Patient Relations: Ensure patients receive the highest quality care and follow up on any complaints or concerns raised by patients.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery (MBChB).
Masters of Medicine in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (MMED).
Must be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
Certifications in ECOG, EmONC, and ALSO.
