The Nairobi Hospital is seeking a Senior Registrar in Internal Medicine to carry out clinical management and clinical procedures for both in-patient and out-patient nephrology patients. Reporting to the Internal Medicine Specialist, the successful candidate will provide curative services in line with established hospital protocols and patient care objectives.
Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment & Stabilization: Serve as the first on-call in the renal team, performing initial patient assessments, treatment, stabilization, and referrals of acute patients in line with the patients' condition.
Medical Procedures: Carry out non-emergency and emergency procedures on patients under supervision, including tunnelled and non-tunnelled hemodialysis catheters and kidney biopsies.
Patient Management: Conduct daily ward rounds for daily clinical progress and management of patients in consultation with the Specialist and/or Consultant.
Mentorship: Mentor medical officers in clinical procedures to impart knowledge and improve patient care.
Continuous Learning: Participate in continuous medical evaluations to sharpen medical knowledge and skills in the area of specialization.
Specialist Training: Pursue mentorship opportunities in applicable specialty area under a specialist or consultant in compliance with the specialist recognition requirements.
Outpatient Services: Participate in patient reviews in outpatient clinics.
Research: Participate in research activities in the applicable specialty area in line with set objectives.
Protocol Development: Participate in the development and review of protocols in applicable specialty areas to enhance clinical management.
Ethics & Confidentiality: Ensure high levels of patient confidentiality and work ethic in line with the hospital's code of conduct.
Requirements
MMed: Master of Medicine degree in Internal Medicine from a recognized institution.
MBChB: Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from a recognized institution.
Registration: Must be registered by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council and hold a valid practicing license.
Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Trauma or Cardiac Life Support (ACLS/ATLS) certificates.
