The Carbon Finance team works across Conservation International (CI) field programs and partner organizations to source and finance a strong pipeline of high-quality Nature-based Solutions (NCS) carbon projects. This involves innovative financing designed to ensure long-term sustainability and private sector participation. The team taps the deep knowledge and technical expertise within CI to catalyze and improve the quality of gigatons of emission reductions and removals in the voluntary and compliance carbon markets. The CF team prioritizes impact through community engagement and benefit-sharing, biodiversity and environmental benefits, and the application of safeguards.
The Senior Manager, Carbon Projects Delivery is responsible for the development and delivery of a portfolio of NCS carbon projects across Africa. The role ensures that on-the-ground implementation is executed within agreed timelines and aligned with approved workplans, certification standards, and CI principles of high quality. Additionally, this position is an integral part of the Keystone Protected Area Financing (KPAF) team, working closely with the Rob Walton Foundation to catalyze investment into protected areas.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management and Delivery
Coordinate and manage the delivery of a portfolio of nature-based carbon projects across Africa, working with CI field programs, project teams, partners, and service providers.
Support the delivery of Keystone Protected Area Financing (KPAF) in collaboration with the Rob Walton Foundation (including scoping opportunities, technical assistance, securing investment, and building capacity).
Develop project-specific workplans and define deliverables to ensure accountability throughout the lifecycle.
Monitor project performance, identify risks, and implement corrective actions.
Support and maintain project monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
Track project budgets and grants in collaboration with the finance team to ensure financial discipline.
Manage relationships with partners, consultants, and Validation & Verification Bodies (VVBs).
Conduct regular field visits to assess implementation progress and partner capacity.
Carbon Project Development
Act as a Carbon Finance technical lead on the management and delivery of Project Descriptions (PDs) and Monitoring Reports (MRs) to achieve successful project validation and verification.
Provide technical support and carbon project development training to country offices and partners.
Pipeline Assessment & Due Diligence
Support early-stage scoping, feasibility assessments, and due diligence of new carbon project opportunities.
Support the development of carbon tools, frameworks, and templates to streamline data gathering and analytical modeling.
Provide technical assessment and feedback on carbon market standards and methodologies.
Safeguards & Project Integrity
Ensure systems and governance structures are in place to uphold safeguards, Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), and benefit-sharing commitments.
