The Senior Legal Officer is a critical position within the Affordable Housing Board (AHB), responsible for providing high-level legal expertise and guidance to support the board's mandate of ensuring accessible and adequate housing in Kenya. The role involves managing legal risks, handling litigation, and ensuring the board operates within the constitutional and statutory frameworks of the Republic of Kenya.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Research & Opinions: Conduct thorough legal research and prepare detailed legal opinions and memoranda on matters affecting the Board's operations.
Legal Information Interpretation: Provide and interpret legal information for staff and management to guide decision-making.
Contract Management: Draft, vet, and negotiate contracts, formal agreements, internal policies, and other legal instruments to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
Litigation Management: Represent the Board in court matters, manage ongoing litigation, and handle pre-litigation disputes and inquiries.
Risk Management: Conduct legal risk reviews and provide actionable advice on risk mitigation strategies.
Strategic Planning: Implement strategic plans and objectives related to the legal function of the organization.
Staff Training: Conduct training and disseminate relevant legal information to Board staff to ensure organizational awareness.
Intellectual Property: Handle the registration of the Board’s documents for intellectual property protection.
Compliance Monitoring: Monitor organizational activities and report on any non-compliance issues.
Requirements and Qualifications
A cumulative service period of at least six (6) years of relevant work experience, with at least three (3) years at the grade of Legal Officer I or a comparable position.
Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized institution.
Postgraduate Diploma in Law (Advocates Training Programme) from the Kenya School of Law.
A valid practicing license.
Current membership in the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) in good standing.
Proficiency in computer applications.
