Senior Legal Counsel, Risk & Compliance

Key Responsibilities

• Legislative Analysis: Review legislation, proposed bills, judicial decisions, best practice, and market trends which have an impact on the Bank and advise/recommend changes to Bank policies and procedures.
• Compliance Support: Provide support in ensuring that the Bank complies with all applicable laws and regulations. Provide advice in relation to compliance matters as contained in the legislation.
• Audits and Remediation: Conduct internal legal compliance audits and examinations to ensure compliance with legislative requirements. Liaise with relevant business units where legal risks have been identified to develop mitigating measures and implement remedial action.
• Risk Framework Maintenance: Update legal compliance checklists and matrixes used for undertaking legal compliance reviews in line with legislation.
• Project and Policy Support: Conduct legal risk analysis and provide legal support for new and ongoing Bank projects. Provide legal support in research, drafting, and review of Bank policies and product terms and conditions.
• Risk Management Activities: Undertake risk-related divisional activities including DORCCO, KRIs, RCSA, KCSA, Ethics Compliance, BIA, RVA, BCP & disaster recovery, audit tracker, and crisis management as allocated.
• Intellectual Property: Undertake intellectual property registration and life cycle management as allocated.
• Power of Attorney Management: Manage the preparation, registration, revocation, and maintenance of data/information for KCB Kenya Powers of Attorney (PAs).
• Knowledge Management: Manage internal and external case law and legal opinions. Prepare and disseminate practice notes, FAQs, training materials, and guidelines.
