The Senior Legal Counsel, Commercial is a pivotal role within KCB Bank Kenya, responsible for overseeing the bank's commercial legal landscape. This includes the preparation and management of complex contracts, leases, and general commercial law issues. The role involves driving the entire contract lifecycle, participating in procurement processes, and providing strategic legal advice to support business initiatives and product implementations.
Key Responsibilities
Contract Management: Drive the contract lifecycle from drafting through negotiation, review, and execution; manage leases and other general commercial legal documents.
Product Gate Process: Manage the legal aspect of product gates, including participation in tender opening activities, supplier evaluations, and various business project initiatives.
Negotiation and Collaboration: Support contract negotiations and work closely with business teams to develop and maintain effective relationships with contractors and vendors.
Legal Opinions and Research: Provide expert legal opinions and guidance on commercial contracts being negotiated, as well as ensure legal and commercial requirements are met for all product implementations.
Legal Awareness: Conduct training sessions for staff on relevant commercial legal issues as required.
Probate Administration: Oversee the administration of probate accounts within the bank.
Requirements and Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized university.
A Diploma in Law and admission as an Advocate of the High Court.
Minimum of five (5) years' relevant post-admission experience, ideally within the financial services sector.
Demonstrated expertise in legal drafting and commercial contracts lifecycle management.
Strong skills in legal communication, advocacy, and managing diverse stakeholders.
