Amref International University (AMIU) is seeking a qualified Senior Lecturer in Medical Surgical Nursing to develop, manage, and monitor the implementation of Nursing and Midwifery Sciences programmes and related academic activities at the university.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
Deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions in the assigned area of expertise.
Develop and update teaching materials, including digital content.
Assess and grade students' assignments, exams, and projects while providing constructive feedback.
Supervise and mentor undergraduate students in their academic projects and research.
Apply modern teaching methods, including e-learning tools and student-centered approaches.
Engage in departmental teaching activities including timetabling, course-loading, exam moderation, and grade entry.
Provide academic leadership for departmental programs.
Curriculum Development
Participate in designing and reviewing course curricula to align with academic standards and market needs.
Identify new program opportunities for the department and spearhead curriculum development.
Research, Innovation, and Scholarship
Conduct individual or collaborative research in Medical Surgical Nursing.
Continuously publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, books, seminars, or conferences.
Seek research grants and funding opportunities to support academic projects.
Identify and engage in departmental fundraising activities.
Academic Administration
Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and institutional activities.
Collaborate with other academics to refine teaching methods and expand overall knowledge base.
Provide academic and administrative support to students and colleagues.
Contribute to program accreditation processes and quality assurance systems.
Handle student advising and exam coordination.
Supervise student and junior staff research work, dissertations, and project theses.
Community Engagement and Professional Development
Collaborate with external healthcare organizations, industries, and the community for knowledge sharing.
Participate in professional development activities such as attending workshops, seminars, and conferences.
Represent the institution in public forums, professional bodies, and academic networks.
Stay current with advancements in the field through continuous reading and publication.
Departmental Support & Other Duties
Participate in university and departmental marketing activities.
Support university leadership and promote a positive working environment.
Engage actively in performance review processes and ongoing personal development.
Qualifications and Requirements
PhD in Nursing with 3 years of experience in academia or industry with relevant publication points.
Master of Science in Nursing – Medical and Surgical Nursing.
Active registration and a valid practice license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
Proven evidence of participation in research activities.
Demonstrated experience supervising at least three (3) postgraduate students to completion.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated team collaboration skills and high integrity.
Experience Requirements
At least 3 years post-PhD university-level teaching experience in nursing training.
At least 2 years of clinical practice experience.
Experience in curriculum development and evaluation.
Experience in supporting virtual learning environments.
