The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Lecturer to join the Faculty of Philosophy. The primary purpose of this role is to provide academic leadership, deliver high-quality instruction, and contribute to the university's research output and community service. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, mentoring students, and participating in the administrative and academic development of the department.
Responsibilities
Work with the Head of Department (HOD) to identify and select courses for which you are qualified and competent to teach during a semester or trimester.
Strictly observe the policies of the Faculty and University in line with the university's vision, mission, and strategic direction.
Actively participate in Faculty and University community service activities.
Engage in internal and external seminars and present reports on research activities.
Attend and effectively participate in Departmental and Faculty Board meetings (DAB/DEB, FAB/FEB) and student assemblies.
Maintain regular office hours for student and staff consultation, ensuring these hours are prominently displayed on the office door.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the academic center.
Ensure regular and punctual attendance of classes using biometric readers for time management.
Regularly review course content in conformity with quality assurance reports and emerging international best practices.
Prepare examination drafts in good time for moderation and proofread them thoroughly.
Mark examinations and return results promptly for moderation by relevant boards (DEB and FEB).
Conduct quality continuous assessment of students and provide timely feedback.
Teach a minimum of 10 units over three trimesters per academic year and undertake extra teaching responsibilities as necessary.
Identify library needs (journals, books, and cases) for assigned courses and solicit donations where possible.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Dean, HOD, or University Management.
Qualifications and Requirements
Must have a PhD or its equivalent in Philosophy or a related field.
Must have a Master’s degree in Philosophy or its equivalent.
Must have at least three articles in refereed journals, or the equivalent, published since promotion to Lecturer.
At least two presentations at national or international conferences.
Evidence of contribution to excellence in teaching.
Minimum of three years of university teaching experience since promotion to the rank of Lecturer.
