Job Description
Overview of the Role
National Quality Control Laboratory (NQCL) is a State Corporation within the Ministry of Health for Quality Control of Medicines on behalf of the Government. The Senior Laboratory Analyst (Physiochemical Analysis) is responsible for ensuring the quality of pharmaceutical products through rigorous laboratory testing and adhering to international standards of analysis.
Responsibilities
Documentation and Compliance: Drafting and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent laboratory performance.
Laboratory Analysis: Preparing laboratory reagents, solutions, specimens, and samples for routine physiochemical analysis.
Reporting: Generating detailed and accurate test reports based on analytical findings.
Safety and Environment: Actively participating in Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) activities to maintain a safe working environment.
Inventory Management: Conducting stock taking of chemicals and other laboratory materials and managing overall inventory.
Quality Testing: Performing laboratory Proficiency Testing (PT) and Inter-Laboratory Comparison (ILC) tests as guided by technical protocols.
Equipment Maintenance: Cleaning and maintaining specialized laboratory equipment and instruments.
Sterilization: Decontaminating and sterilizing glassware and surfaces for biological and chemical analysis.
Validation: Validating cleaning processes for glassware, equipment, and surfaces to prevent cross-contamination.
Qualifications and Requirements
Service Record: A cumulative relevant service period of six (6) years, with at least three (3) years served at the grade of Laboratory Analyst I or in a comparable position.
Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Professional Status: Membership to a professional body and a Registration Certificate where applicable.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer applications is required.
