Senior Internal Auditor

The role of the Senior Internal Auditor is to implement governance, risk management, and internal controls to ensure the Institute complies with statutory regulations and internal policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Implement fraud investigation and anti-corruption policies, guidelines, strategies, and plans.
2. Analyse data on financial records, systems, and processes.
3. Undertake comprehensive audits at the Institute.
4. Conduct stocktaking assignments, risk assessment, corruption risk assessment, and anti-corruption awareness activities.
5. Review internal controls in the Institute.
6. Evaluate the adequacy of system controls and recommend improvements.
7. Carry out audit checks and identify any accounting errors.
8. Undertake spot-checks and cash surveys.
9. Undertake audit investigations.
10. Carry out audit follow-ups on implementation of recommendations on audit reports.
11. Assess compliance with internal policies, tax regulations, and other statutory guidelines.
12. Implement quality assurance and improvement programme.
13. Consolidate primary audit reports/queries on the Institute’s financial statements.
14. Prepare documents for the Risk and Audit committee of the Institute.
15. Carry out compliance tests.
16. Monitor and evaluate audit reports.

Qualifications and Requirements

For appointment to this position, a candidate must have:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Economics, Business Administration, Business Management or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
2. Certificate in any of the following disciplines: Part II of the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Part II of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Examination, Part II of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
3. Cumulative service period of six (6) years’ relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been at the level of Internal Auditor I or in a comparable position.
4. Membership to either of the following bodies in good standing: Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), Institute of Internal Auditors (IAA), or Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).
5. Proficiency in computer applications.
6. Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
