About the Role
Sign of Hope e.V. is an organization headquartered in Konstanz, Germany, dedicated to protecting the rights of people in distress and meeting their needs for assistance. Our work is informed by spiritual beliefs and is non-denominational. As a Senior Human Rights Officer, you will occupy an advisory staff position, reporting directly to the Chairperson of the Executive Board. You will lead both operational and structural human rights initiatives within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Human Rights Work
Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research and analysis of the human rights situation in selected countries.
Reporting: Prepare scientific reports and analytical documents for both internal and external stakeholders.
Advocacy: Conceptualize and implement human rights advocacy work, providing key input for public relations and advocacy communication.
Structural Human Rights Work
Programmatic Integration: Ensure that key human rights aspects are integrated into the structure of programmatic project work.
Mainstreaming: Embed human rights-based approach (HRBA) instruments across all organizational departments and core processes.
Capacity Building: Design and conduct trainings for staff members and project partners.
Monitoring: Develop and strengthen human rights-related monitoring and reflection mechanisms in collaboration with technical departments.
Requirements
Education: A completed university degree in social sciences and/or law, ideally with a specialization in human rights.
Experience: At least three years of relevant professional experience in a human rights-related field (desirable).
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical capabilities and a meticulous, goal-oriented working style.
Interpersonal Skills: Empathy and sensitivity for the target groups, plus excellent organizational and communication skills.
Language: Excellent English language skills are required; German language skills are desirable.
Technical: Proficient in MS Office applications.
Safeguarding: Commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable persons; a police clearance certificate is required upon hiring.
