The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K), established under Section 24 of the Universities Education Act (2012), is seeking to recruit a Senior Finance and Accounts Officer - Grade 8. The University offers specialized certificates, diplomas, and degrees in areas related to Defence and security. This role is responsible for implementing accounting policies, managing financial statements, ensuring statutory compliance, and coordinating with both internal and external auditors.
Responsibilities
Implementing accounting policies, strategies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures.
Preparing financial statements and accounts.
Verifying payment vouchers and bank reconciliation statements.
Reviewing and recommending modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
Collaborating with internal and external auditors to ensure compliance with statutory audit requirements.
Participating in financial standards setting and the forecasting process.
Preparing and submitting daily bank balances for monitoring.
Issuing cheque books to the cashier and ensuring book serial numbers are consistently followed.
Updating vote heads for various departments and maintaining the asset register.
Developing the departmental work plan.
Participating in quality management and performance contracting processes.
Requirements
A cumulative service period of six (6) years’ relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been at the grade of Finance and Accounts Officer I or in a comparable position.
Bachelor's degree in any of the following disciplines: Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized and accredited institution.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent qualification from an accredited examination body.
Registered with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
Proficiency in computer applications.
Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
