SunCulture is on a mission to help smallholder farmers in Africa improve both crop yields and quality through innovative technology. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will own the end-to-end lifecycle of AI/ML projects, from ideation and business scoping to prototyping and deployment. You will be instrumental in enhancing critical machine learning models, driving innovation through generative AI, and optimizing business processes through automation to deliver measurable value.
Key Responsibilities
AI and Data Science Leadership: Own the end-to-end lifecycle of AI/ML projects, ensuring seamless integration into production environments using Docker and DevOps.
Predictive Analytics and Model Ownership: Enhance critical ML models, such as Credit Scoring, by continuously monitoring performance and implementing improvements to boost accuracy and predictive power.
AI-Led Self-Service Data Platform: Spearhead the development of an AI-driven platform leveraging generative AI, AI agents, and LLMs to automate tasks and empower teams.
Innovation through POCs: Design and execute Proof of Concepts (POCs) to test hypotheses and validate business use cases aligned with strategic goals.
Business Process Optimization: Partner with business teams to apply predictive models or AI-driven automation to optimize decision-heavy or repetitive tasks.
MLOps and AI Governance: Build robust ML pipelines ensuring model monitoring, versioning, and compliance with Kenya’s Data Protection Act.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Align AI-driven solutions with strategic objectives and foster trust through clear communication with stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement enhancements to data science processes, model accuracy, and analytics workflows.
Ad Hoc Support: Support the Business Intelligence team with timely data extracts and dashboard solutions.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience developing and deploying data science or AI/ML solutions in a business setting.
Proven track record in AI strategy and implementation, including generative AI applications.
Demonstrated expertise in designing, prototyping, and deploying machine learning models like Credit Scoring.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to translate complex AI solutions for non-technical stakeholders.
Strategic thinker with an innovative mindset and a strong sense of ownership.
Required Skills
Technical Proficiency: Advanced Python and machine learning frameworks.
Generative AI: Expertise in LLMs for automation and innovative applications.
SQL Mastery: Strong skills in data manipulation for relational databases and data warehouses (e.g., ClickHouse).
MLOps & Tools: Experience with MLflow, Kubeflow, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
Cloud Platforms: Experience with AWS SageMaker, GCP Vertex AI, or Azure ML.
Prototyping: Proficiency in front-end tools like Streamlit or Gradio.
BI & Visualization: Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, or Amazon QuickSight.
