BURN is seeking a Senior Carbon Technical Manager – VCM Biomass Lead who will take full technical ownership of BURN’s biomass carbon portfolio, ensuring projects are delivered on time, compliant with global standards, and optimized for credit issuance across multiple pathways. This role combines strategic leadership, technical expertise, and stakeholder management to drive high-quality MRV systems, verification processes, and continuous improvement across BURN’s carbon operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Carbon Portfolio Management: Ensure issuance volume delivery on time, on scope, and on budget. Oversee technical compliance with VCM registry methodological and procedural requirements for charcoal and firewood displacement projects.
- Team Leadership: Assign projects to technical teams, set reporting targets, and oversee capacity building and training programs. Manage a team of technical or project management professionals.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Lead VVB contract management, develop relationships with GHG certification registries (Gold Standard, Verra, UNFCCC), and engage with national standards bodies.
- MRV & Monitoring: Own the design and continuous improvement of MRV systems, including Kitchen Performance Test (KPT) protocols, KOBO survey instruments, and database quality standards.
- Technical Reporting: Lead preparation of monitoring reports, VVB verification packages, and technical responses on new methodologies or ratings agency updates.
- Strategic Oversight: Review emergent trends in ICVCM and forecast technical threats and opportunities. Lead technical adaptation to the UNFCCC Article 6.4 mechanism and CORSIA eligibility.
Biomass Portfolio Management
- Maintain current project registers covering crediting period timelines, monitoring calendars, and registry status.
- Lead Annual Plan preparation for the biomass portfolio across all active project countries.
- Manage relationships with Gold Standard, Verra, and the UNFCCC Article 6.4 Supervisory Body.
- Ensure End-User Awareness (EUA) and Direct Customer Engagement (DCE) documentation is compliant with Gold Standard CCP requirements.
Crediting Pathway Technical Management
- VCM (Gold Standard/Verra): Own technical compliance for charcoal and firewood displacement projects.
- CORSIA: Manage CORSIA-eligible project tracks and coordinate with compliance buyers.
- Article 6.4: Lead technical adaptation of biomass projects to the UNFCCC A6.4 Methodology Framework.
MRV and Quality Assurance
- Oversee quarterly KPT and monitoring survey cycles, including sample design and statistical analysis.
- Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and QA/QC plans for all biomass processes.
- Manage household ID linkage across survey instruments to ensure auditability.
