The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst role at West Indian Ocean Cable Company (WIOCC) is a critical position focused on transforming financial and operational data into strategic, actionable intelligence for management decision-making and long-term planning. The role involves deep expertise in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and BI tools, serving as a key data and systems expert within the organization, particularly concerning Profit & Loss (P&L), Cashflow, and Balance Sheet performance.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Business Intelligence and Analysis
- Perform day-to-day maintenance and review of data within WIOCC’s business budget models and associated working data files.
- Integrate actual monthly and annual financial performance, as prepared by the accounts team, into actionable Business Intelligence (BI) reports for management and other stakeholders, detailing warning signs or recommendations as needed.
- Lead the annual and long-term strategic planning and budget processes by providing data-driven financial insights and forecasts, ensuring alignment of budgets with overall business objectives.
- Prepare compelling, concise BI reports and presentations for Management that clearly articulate the company's financial strategy and performance to enable informed decision-making.
- Support management and other departments with reports and analysis required for their specific areas.
- Serve as a data & systems expert, ensuring BI needs are met by internal suppliers including the IT and Finance teams.
- Provide reports, analysis, and insights on P&L, cashflow, and balance sheet performance, including opportunities and risks against budget.
- Foster strong relationships with key business units to ensure BI solutions effectively meet their needs and contribute to overall business success.
- Support finance initiatives, including equity or debt fundraising projects.
- Support the Business Intelligence Director with any other reports as required.
P&L, Cashflow and Balance Sheet Management
- Provide detailed reports, analysis, and insights on P&L, Cashflow, and Balance Sheet elements across the organization, including budget variances.
- Lead the annual costs budgeting process, working closely with department heads to prepare realistic and achievable budgets.
- Highlight key dependencies and risks in the financial plan to the Business Intelligence Director.
- Implement and continuously improve systems used to analyze P&L actuals and future forecasts (FYF) across the group, enhancing visibility, accuracy, and decision-making capabilities.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor revenue and cost performance.
- Participate in strategic projects, offering expertise in cost management and cost optimization.
- Identify, develop, and implement financial controls and processes to ensure accurate recognition and billing of revenue, alongside cost optimisation strategies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, Statistics, or an equivalent field.
- Relevant professional qualifications such as CPA(K) or ACCA are required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in financial analysis.
- Demonstrable experience in the Telecommunications, IT Infrastructure, or other Technology sectors is a significant advantage (a plus).
Skills and Competences
- Demonstrable expertise in numerical, financial, and interpretative techniques, preferably gained within the Telecommunications or IT Infrastructure sectors.
- Proven ability to produce high-level graphical representations of data for management consumption and simplifying complex analysis into concise and actionable insights.
- Strong abilities in business acumen, strategic thinking, P&L understanding, data comprehension, and rigorous analysis.
- Confidence to make data-driven decisions and advise on a wide variety of accounting and financial matters while fully understanding their implications on the business.
- Proficient in MS Office, with advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills being mandatory.
- Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite is preferred, but experience with similar systems is acceptable).
- Proficiency in BI analysis tools, such as PowerBI or Tableau.
- Exceptional time management skills and the ability to handle multiple data streams and deadlines concurrently.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to integrate effectively within the WIOCC team to achieve results.
