Job Description
Role Overview
The Senior Assistant Director of Medical Services/Medical Specialist I (Health Informatics) is a senior-level position within the Makueni County Public Service Board, categorized under Job Group ‘Q’. This role involves providing specialized clinical care, managing health information systems, and leading various medical programs and research initiatives to improve health outcomes within the county.
Responsibilities and Duties
Clinical Care: Undertaking general diagnosis, care, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients, as well as providing specialized clinical care and psycho-social interventions.
Surgical Services: Performing surgeries and providing consulting services across various health facilities.
Disease Management: Coordinating disease surveillance, prevention, and control efforts.
Health Promotion: Coordinating health education and promotion activities, and implementing health projects and programs.
Informatics & Information Systems: Maintaining up-to-date health information systems and monitoring the provision of health treatment and care.
Research & Analysis: Undertaking health research and analyzing medical reports to inform decision-making.
Forensic Services: Carrying out forensic and medico-legal services as required.
Training: Mentoring and training junior staff and other health professionals.
Requirements for Appointment
Education: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) degree from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
Post-Graduate Qualification: Master's degree in any of the following fields: Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics and Child Health, Health Informatics, Epidemiology, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Licensing: A valid practicing license and registration certificate from the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
Leadership Training: Certificate in a Strategic Leadership Development Programme Course (lasting at least six weeks) from a recognized institution.
Technical Skills: Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.
