Our client, a leading telecommunications provider, is seeking a Sectional IP Network Engineer.
Job Summary / Role Intent
The Sectional IP Network Engineer – Field will be responsible for achieving MSAN network availability and customer uptime KPIs through on-site power-related maintenance for assigned MSAN nodes, ensuring the quality and continuity of services as per the company's KPIs, within budgeted costs. The engineer will also be required to carry out Feasibility & Implementation, as well as billing-related disconnection and reconnection of ISDN & PSTN circuits at the MSAN level.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain consistent MSAN availability through proactive maintenance of the nodes' power supply.
Timely management of assigned MSAN & Switch power-related faults and resolution within SLA.
Facilitate key updates during the restoration journey to ensure the customer is fully updated.
Carry out Feasibility, Implementation, and disconnection/reconnection of ISDN and PSTN circuits.
Document customer setups.
Maintain a safe work environment by following HSE, engineering standards, procedures, and legal regulations.
Keep track of individual performance and suggest initiatives to improve.
Monitor and track network costs and align with Finance.
Perform any other duties as may be assigned and/or delegated by the line manager.
Principal Outputs
Work within the allocated monthly fuel limit.
Provide Street MSAN power meter readings to Finance by the 20th of every month.
Achieve 99.65% Average MSAN Availability for Nairobi MSANs for the year.
Ensure 90% of all Nairobi MSANs are on target with regards to Power.
Ensure 90% of all Nairobi MSANs are above 90% with regards to Power.
Reconnect 80% of disconnected lines within 2 hours after payment of bills.
Manage customer SLA: complete 80% of all assigned provision & cessation cases within 24 Hours.
Resolve 80% of faults within 4 hours.
Carry out routine maintenance on all MSAN nodes on a quarterly basis and provide power autonomy status and recommendations for each node.
Complete assigned Feasibility tickets within 24 Hours.
Academic & Professional Qualifications
Relevant Bachelor’s degree or Higher Diploma in Telecommunication and training in technology/Engineering.
Proficiency in MS Office tools.
Valid Kenyan driving license.
Experience & Requirements
3-5 years working in the Telecom industry.
Strong organizational skills with a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant technical experience within a large national network.
Ability to plan and prioritize own and team’s work.
Calmness under pressure.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Continuous improvement mindset, self-motivated, and depth/breadth of expertise.
Technical Competencies
Hands-on proficiency in the installation and maintenance of power equipment.
Knowledge of SIP and experience in working with SIP providers.
Routing and switching experience with hands-on proficiency in configuring Multivendor Routers and Switches.
Cisco qualifications or any other IP Network certification.
