Our client, a co-educational school with both primary and secondary sections and offering day and boarding options, is currently seeking a School Nurse. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing medical care to all students and staff, as well as maintaining hygiene standards throughout the school.\n\n### Specific Responsibilities\n\n#### Treatment and Nursing Duties\n* Treatment and dispensing medicine for minor illnesses.\n* Checking and reporting all injuries and referring to a medical doctor for treatment.\n* Discussing with parents on emergency cases and referring to a qualified medical doctor/hospital.\n* Assist in the maintenance of students’ medical clinics.\n* Assist to maintain required records in the infirmary and dorms.\n* Ensuring cleanness and hygiene in food production and service.\n* Assist in making sure all Health protocols are followed by all staff and children.\n* Ensuring the health and safety in the school and making sure all correct procedures are followed.\n* Assist in supervision of all cleaning and housekeeping in all areas of the school.\n* Assist in relieving the Nurse or Matron when they are off duty.\n* Guidance and counseling of the children and staff.\n* Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.\n\n#### Cleaning and Housekeeping Duties\n* Assisting the matron in supervising the cleanliness in the dorms, classes, laundry, administration, swimming pool, halls and to make sure that the staff have performed their duties.\n* Ensure that all toilets are cleaned regularly throughout the day and adequately stocked with the required supplies at all times.\n* Assist to oversee the cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen and storage of foods.\n\n#### Administrative Responsibilities\n* Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly medical and incident reports as required.\n* Maintain confidentiality of all medical information in accordance with professional and legal requirements.\n* Participate in staff meetings, training programmes, emergency drills, and professional development activities.\n* Perform any other duties reasonably assigned by the Head Nurse, Matron, Principal, or Management.\n\n### Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)\n* Timely response to all medical emergencies.\n* Accurate and up-to-date medical records maintained.\n* Compliance with medication management procedures.\n* High standards of hygiene maintained across the school.\n* Health and safety inspections completed as scheduled.\n* Adequate availability of medical supplies and first aid equipment.\n* Prompt referral and follow-up of serious medical cases.\n* Positive health awareness and education programmes conducted.\n* Compliance with Ministry of Health and school health policies.\n\n### Qualifications and Experience\n* Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.\n* Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya and holding a valid practicing license.\n* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or First Aid certification is an added advantage.\n* Minimum of two years' experience in a school, hospital, or clinical setting is preferred.\n\n### Competencies\n* Clinical competence and sound nursing judgment.\n* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.\n* Compassion, empathy, and professionalism.\n* High ethical standards and confidentiality.\n* Good record-keeping and organizational skills.\n* Ability to remain calm during emergencies.\n* Teamwork and collaboration.\n* Attention to detail and strong observation skills.\n* Problem-solving and decision-making ability.
