The SME Relationship Manager is responsible for driving the growth of the Branch SME portfolio (Non-Funded Income, deposits, and assets) by acquiring new-to-bank customers and effectively managing relationships with existing clients to ensure business continuity.
Key Responsibilities
Acquisition & Business Development
Ensure growth of the Branch SME portfolio through active customer acquisition and lead generation.
Generate referrals to business partners within the bank to meet the comprehensive financial needs of borrowing entities.
Drive the acquisition and onboarding of customers onto digital channels.
Manage and expand relationships with existing SME banking clients to bring in new partnerships.
Portfolio Profitability (Cross-Sell & Retention)
Grow the SME customer portfolio size (Product per customer, NFI, deposits, and assets) by deepening existing relationships.
Collaborate with Branch Managers to execute retention plans for portfolio deposits and loans.
Monitor account planning and advise clients on potential financial solutions based on their needs.
Manage maturing fixed deposits to encourage retention.
Timely resolution of client queries and collaboration with product specialists to deliver solutions.
Ensure fulfillment of customer touch points (minimum 1 visit per quarter and monthly calls/emails).
Onboard all clients on digital platforms (Gab Pesa, Internet Banking) and target a Product Per Customer (PPC) metric of 5 across the portfolio.
Evaluate credit proposals and ensure timely processing within set turnaround times.
Customer Service & Information Management
Obtain and process account opening documentation and ensure CIF numbers are generated.
Follow up on missing customer documentation and maintain updated customer data.
Compliance
Ensure full compliance with internal/external regulatory requirements (KYC, AML) and operational policies.
Qualifications & Competencies
Bachelor's degree in any field.
2-3 years of experience in client management.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
