About the Role
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is seeking a Regional IT Network/Systems Officer to be based in Nairobi. This role is central to managing and optimizing the regional IT infrastructure, including servers, end-user devices, networks, and hybrid cloud environments. The successful candidate will ensure high availability and security of services while aligning regional ICT projects and infrastructure with global standards set by the Global Information Systems team.
Key Responsibilities
IT Strategy, Planning & Service Delivery
- Contribute to the development and implementation of global end-user computing, network/systems, and software acquisition standards.
- Plan and manage regional IT infrastructure and services in coordination with the Global Information Systems team at HQ.
- Evaluate user needs and service effectiveness, recommending scalable and secure technology solutions.
- Lead regional ICT projects, handle infrastructure planning, budgeting inputs, and coordinate with vendors.
Systems & Infrastructure Administration
- Administer and maintain regional IT infrastructure (servers, end-user devices, LAN/WAN, VPNs, firewalls, DNS/DHCP).
- Manage and optimize cloud infrastructure (including AWS) for performance and cost efficiency.
- Administer enterprise platforms: Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Azure AD, Windows Server, ERP, HRIS, and CRM.
- Oversee configuration, deployment, patch management, and system imaging using centralized tools (SCCM).
- Monitor system performance and ensure minimal downtime.
Cybersecurity, Compliance & Business Continuity
- Implement cybersecurity controls, including endpoint protection, firewalls, and threat detection.
- Ensure software license compliance and IT asset management across regional offices.
- Conduct backup/recovery operations and disaster recovery testing.
- Mitigate security threats in alignment with global IT policies.
End-User Support & Capacity Building
- Provide advanced technical support for hardware, software, and cloud services.
- Manage the lifecycle of laptops, desktops, tablets, mobile devices, and VoIP systems.
- Deliver user training on Microsoft applications and enterprise systems to enhance digital adoption.
- Collaborate within the global "follow-the-sun" IT support framework.
Governance & Leadership
- Develop IT procedures, system documentation, and troubleshooting guidelines.
- Lead IT procurement processes and manage vendor SLA performance.
- Supervise and coordinate IT staff and consultants in the region.
Requirements
- Education: University degree or equivalent in an IT/Computer Science field.
- Work Experience: Minimum 6-8 years’ experience in End User Computing and Network/Systems environments.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency with Windows 11, Apple iOS, Android, and Microsoft SCCM (patch management).
- Management: Experience with Service Desk management tools and IT asset management processes.
- Language: Proficiency in written and oral English and Kiswahili is required.
