Nutri Nuts and Fruits Limited is a leading exporter of the finest quality nuts and dried fruit from Kenya. Our processing factory is strategically located on the slopes of Mt. Kenya close to the farms. We are seeking a Quality Control Assistant to support our Food Safety Management System (FSMS) and quality assurance requirements across all processing stages at our factory.
Role Overview
The Quality Control Assistant is responsible for ensuring compliance with food safety and quality standards throughout the production lifecycle. This involves everything from sampling and inspection to documentation and training.
Key Responsibilities
Food Safety and Quality Compliance
Support adherence to the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) and quality assurance requirements across all processing stages.
Conduct sampling, inspection, and documentation of food products at all processing stages including receiving, drying, cracking, sorting, grading, packing, and warehousing.
Assist in verification activities to confirm effective implementation of FSMS and HACCP controls.
Monitor critical control points and quality checkpoints (e.g., metal detection, final sorting) and report any deviations immediately.
Support implementation and follow-up of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) within agreed timelines.
Monitoring and Communication
Communicate sampling results and quality findings to relevant departments for action.
Update the Production Supervisor and QA Manager on observed quality status and deviations.
Report and document nonconformities to support root cause analysis and corrective action.
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of inspections, sampling results, and verification activities.
Assist in preparation of periodic FSMS and quality performance reports.
Support internal and external audits by availing required records and documentation.
Training and Capacity Building
Participate in food safety and quality training programs.
Support sensitization and awareness sessions on hygiene, GMP, and quality requirements.
Assist in induction of new employees on FSMS and quality standards.
Continuous Improvement and Problem Solving
Participate in identification of quality and food safety challenges during production.
Support implementation of improvement actions under guidance of the QA team.
Contribute to the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of FSMS in line with regulatory and company standards.
Workplace Health, Safety, and Hygiene
Comply with workplace health, safety, and hygiene requirements at all times.
Maintain high standards of personal hygiene to prevent contamination and ensure product integrity.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Percentage of products meeting defined quality and food safety standards.
Number of batches rejected due to quality or safety issues.
Level of compliance during internal audits and number of nonconformities closed within set timelines.
Timeliness and accuracy of sampling, inspections, and submitted quality reports.
Successful participation in training and feedback scores from sensitization sessions.
Requirements and Qualifications
A Diploma or BA/BSc/HND in a relevant field.
At least 1 year of experience in a quality control or food safety role.
Knowledge of Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS) and HACCP controls.
Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and hygiene requirements.
Strong documentation and reporting skills.
