The Health Advisor provides operational support to the BU Health Manager in implementing the agribusiness health model at country level. This role ensures smooth daily operations, effective data collection, coordination with internal and external stakeholders, monitoring, reporting, and compliance support. The Health Advisor contributes to both country-level programs and broader global initiatives such as Health Impact Assessments (HIA), Environmental & Social Health Integration (ESHIA), and the Human Rights Action Plan.
Job Responsibilities:
Operational Health Support
- Assist in day-to-day implementation of BU health programs across agribusiness operations.
- Track ongoing field activities, monitor progress, and flag issues to the Health Manager.
- Gather, compile, and validate health and safety data from farms, agri-hubs, contractors, and communities.
- Review reports from internal teams, contractors, and external partners for accuracy and compliance.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Act as a liaison with internal teams (AGROS, HSE, SUSTAINABILITY, Country Teams) to support integrated health programs.
- Support in the coordination with local health authorities, NGOs, cooperatives, and other partners to ensure alignment with BU initiatives.
- Support planning and facilitation of workshops, trainings, and field visits.
- Support effective communication during engagement with local staff, value chain actors, and community stakeholders.
Health Assessment & Program Support
- Contribute to Health Impact Assessments (HIA), Environmental & Social Health Integration, and other health-related studies across agribusiness operations.
- Support development, updating, and monitoring of risk registers, hazard identification, and mitigation plans for all occupational, environmental, and community health risks.
- Assist in assessing and managing occupational toxicology and chemical hazards, including feedstock-specific risks, pesticide exposure, and potential poisoning (including snakes and insects).
- Support epidemiological assessments and vector-borne disease monitoring, including mapping vectors, tracking potential changes in flora and fauna, and assessing waterborne disease risks.
- Contribute to community health initiatives, identifying health needs, engaging stakeholders, and defining programs aligned with business operations and local priorities.
- Collaborate with internal teams, local health authorities, NGOs, cooperatives, and other partners to implement remedial pathways for occupational and community health hazards.
- Apply a risk-to-action approach across all target groups.
- Address all major hazard clusters: physical/accident, chemical/toxicological, biological/vector-borne, environmental/spillover, and psychosocial/organizational hazards, including social protection gaps.
- Support capacity building and compliance initiatives for staff, value chain actors, and communities, ensuring integration with international frameworks (WHO, ILO, IFC, ISCC, World Bank ESF) while contextualizing interventions to country-level conditions, feedstock types, and operational footprints.
- Assist in monitoring, evaluation, and reporting, including collecting evidence, reviewing KPIs, maintaining dashboards, and contributing to cross-country learning loops.
- Perform other health-related tasks and assignments as requested by the Health Manager to support BU operations and global programs.
Documentation, Reporting & Monitoring
- Maintain and update country-level health databases, dashboards, and monitoring tools.
- Support preparation of periodic reports for BU management and global HQ.
- Ensure compliance with national regulations and international standards, including WHO guidelines, World Bank Environmental & Social Framework, and other applicable frameworks.
Capacity Building
- Assist in organizing and delivering internal and external trainings for staff, value chain actors, and local partners.
- Help strengthen local awareness of occupational and community health risks and mitigation practices.
General Support & Other Duties
- Perform other health-related tasks and assignments as requested by the Health Manager to support BU operations and global programs.
Job Qualifications & Competencies
- Degree in Medicine (MBCHB) is an added advantage.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Occupational Health, or related discipline.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in public or occupational health, preferably in agribusiness, energy, or industrial sectors.
- Familiarity with international standards and frameworks, including WHO, World Bank, IFC, and ILO guidance.
- Strong understanding of occupational and community health hazards, risk management, and monitoring approaches.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Proficiency in local language(s) and English (spoken and written).
- Ability to travel to field sites and work in multi-cultural, dynamic environments.
