Job Description
Role Overview
The Emerging Voices Coordinator (Regional) works under the direct supervision of the Public Diplomacy Officer - Emerging Voices (PDO [EV]). The position has no supervisory responsibilities. This role coordinates Mission Public Diplomacy (PD) outreach to Emerging Voices audiences through the Mandela Washington Fellows Program (MWF) and other emerging voices outreach initiatives. The coordinator develops projects and events in Kenya and regionally, working with MWF alumni to develop activities that engage EV audiences through focused community engagement programs.
Key Responsibilities
Outreach & Event Coordination: Design, develop, identify co-sponsors and funding sources, plan, and oversee a range of outreach activities in support of Mission goals.
Fellowship Management: Manage recruitment and placement for Kenyan MWF participants.
Strategic Advising: Advise senior leaders of opportunities to promote Mission MWF and other EV outreach objectives.
Audience Analysis: Identify, analyze, predict, and assess EV audience attitudes; evaluate the impact of activities and projects and modify approaches for best outcomes.
Trend Monitoring: Perceive the emergence of new trends and new sources of influence on EV audiences and adjust operations and programming accordingly.
Partnership Management: Negotiate agreements with partner institutions and manage their fulfillment.
Project Management: Establish credibility and lead group participation in projects such as workshops, seminars, conferences, and other outreach programs, including virtual activities.
Digital Engagement: Use social media, mobile platforms, podcasts, and basic photo/video tools to generate interest and participation.
Budgeting: Develop and oversee project and grant budgets; develop descriptive statistical analysis of target audience segments.
Requirements
Eligibility: This position is restricted to U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) only.
Education: College or University studies (no specific field required).
Experience: 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a multilingual, multicultural, multinational, government, or museum environment. Experience must include marketing, public relations, communication, or education duties as a significant part of the role.
Language: Level IV (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing of English is required.
Job Knowledge:
Detailed knowledge of U.S. foreign policy and American interests in Kenya, specifically the Emerging Voices sector.
Knowledge of USG and Department of State (DOS) structure.
Understanding of PD tactics, tools, and funding authorities.
Deep understanding of the attitudes and preferences of the EV audience sector in Kenya (ethnic, socio-economic, cultural, etc.).
Knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements for public engagement in Kenya.
Skills and Abilities
Analytic Skills: Ability to conceptualize innovation and experiential learning opportunities.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent customer relations and cross-cultural communication skills.
Management Skills: Strong project management and negotiation skills.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PD-specific software. Practice in using social media and mobile platforms.
